Earlier this week the new coalition government announced that it would slashing its advertising budget in half and would be lose 287 in-house marketing jobs. Whilst clearly bad news for people involved it will open up an opportunity for companies like ours to provide our services on an outsourced basis. We believe this model makes a lot of sense in the battle to reduce public expenditure because ours is a highly competitive industry and we know that we must be very cost efficient to survive. Paying for just work required rather than the salaries of full time staff, their overheads and of course pension contributions makes a lot of sense now and frankly even after this recession is really over. The added benefit though is that you gain access to people who are not only good at what they do (our speciality is Design) but also to their experience in a wide range of industries. Working in just one business in one sector just does not keep you in touch with the rest of the world. The next step though for the government is to make tendering for work much easier for smaller companies. For those of you reading this article who have been through the PQQ and Tender process in the public sector you will know what I mean. This is a great time for the new government to give work to the talented SMEs that so often get overlooked in favour of big agencies with big overheads who seem to have the tender process working in their favour. Our message for the Cameron/Clegg team is “Give us a try you will not be disappointed” Trevor PS. A message to the 267 leaving soon. Don’t worry there is a very interesting and thriving world out there for marketing professionals.
